metal roof coating

Looking to fix, renew, or maybe just protect your roof from future damage? The sun is starting to come out and the days are getting longer, meaning it’s almost the perfect time of year for household projects. Ames Research has created the perfect products for the Do It Yourself-er and the variety of roof surfaces. Ames coatings eliminate the need for costly re-roofing and you can do it yourself. You’ll see us use sprayers, but no special equipment is necessary to apply our products and extend the life of your roof.

The first step to properly renewing your roof is preparation. Preparation is important because it can make all the difference in the longevity of your roof system. Make sure all surfaces you will be coating are dry and clean before application. Brush off debris, give everything a nice spray down, and let your roof sit and dry for a few days. Also, fill any gaps and problem areas with seam tape to reinforce them. This will ensure a nice, long lasting coating.

We will be discussing how to coat and seal a metal roof. If you are curious about other roof types, click here and find what you are looking for. You can use any tool you want with Ames products such as brushes or rollers on up to sprayers. It ultimately comes down to preference and project size, so choose what’s right for you. You can find sprayer specifications here.
Pour the thick liquid coating out and spread 1-2 gallons of product liberally with a push broom or roller. Work the product until it is smooth and looks consistent in thickness. Move on after a few minutes or you can create an unintended texture in the coating’s finished appearance.

Standard product coverage on a smooth surface is 100 sq. ft. per gallon per coat (est. 10 mil) but it varies per surface. More than one coat is always recommended. More coats equal longer life. Two is sufficient in most cases.

This can be done with a sprayer as well as shown by the pictures:
