What is Ames® Paint & Prime®?

Do it all with the original Paint & Prime® All-in-one coating!

This is our premium all in one acrylic and latex paint and primer for indoor and outdoor use. Paint & Prime® is “high-hide” to cover up blemishes on the surface and prepare it for another paint or coating. It also has the same elastomeric technology as our other coatings, so it will resist peeling and cracking as well as having the same waterproofing technologies as our other coatings. This elastomeric paint comes with a 25 year quality warranty.

Paint & Prime® is an excellent choice as a waterproofing solution.

Where to Use:
• Concrete
• Other Masonry
• Wood
• Metal surfaces
• Metal or Aluminum Siding
• Cured Plaster
• Drywall
• Commercial Metal Building
• Mobile Homes
• Very Effective Over Graffiti and Stains

Topcoat:
Use Ames® Paint & Prime® as a top coat on Ames® basecoats such as Super Elasto-Barrier® and Blue Max®.

Tools:
Brush – Use a nylon/polyester brush.
Roller – Use a 3/8″- 3/4″ nap synthetic cover.
Spray – Airless pressure…2000 psi. Tip…021″-.035” with reversa tip. 1 hp min.

Preparation:

Read all label instructions before beginning. Always run a test patch first in an inconspicuous area, to ensure that proper adhesion and drying occurs and the product works to your satisfaction. Careful and complete preparation will ensure the best results. The surface must be clean, dry and relatively free from all dust, grease, wax, dirt, oil, chalk, solvents, loose paint, wallpaper and paste. Wash surface thoroughly. Heavily rusted areas may be wire brushed or sanded until smooth. Mold and mildew areas may be cleaned with an appropriate cleaner (i.e. 5-10% bleach and water solution). Paint & Prime® has mildew inhibitors and will kill most fungus and algae. When priming over stains, remove as much of the stain as possible by washing or sanding the surface. For exterior peeling, power wash surfaces first and sand until smooth. Follow standard painting practices while preparing the surface.

Application:

For best results use two coats of Paint & Prime® in difficult areas. If the stain persists re-coat again. Apply with a brush, roller or sprayer. Paint & Prime® may be applied to stained areas only, but best results are obtained by priming the entire surface. This will extend the coverage and life span of the topcoat. Coverage will vary depending on the porosity of the surface.

Clean-up, Storage, and Disposal:

Clean tools and small spills with water. Store unused product in its original container, tightly sealed and protected from freezing. Dispose of this product in accordance with local, state, or federal requirements.

Estimated Coverage:

The rate of coverage is dependent upon the surface condition. Paint & Prime® covers 300-500 sq. feet a gallon/coat depending on the roughness, texture, and porosity of surface being treated. Areas in poor condition may require additional coats and will have a lower coverage rate. For Sprayer Application: Thin with water up to 10%.

Weather & Drying Guidelines:

Ames® Paint & Prime® 25 is best applied between 40° to 90° F (10° to 32° C) on warm dry surfaces. Apply when the streets are dry, the sun is in the sky and no inclement weather is forecast. Starts to dry in 2-8 hours, depending on thickness of application and weather; cures in 24 hours. Low temperatures, high humidity and evening and morning dew will require increased drying/curing time.

    Good
    Best product I have used.
I watched other peoples buildings bubble and peel a couple of years after painting, and others flaking off in a few years.
I don’t have the budget to keep painting and or repairing the paint. I don’t sell my properties, but one. It was a new build, and I prefer the craftsmanship of the home builders pre 40’s.
Tried the product on one brick triplex, it lasted many years, then tried it on my favorite brick duplex, its still very y good.
I didn’t water it down, but, neither did I have them wash the building first. I had to save the money on the labour. No washing and only one coat. (heavier roll) Simple math.

Planning to try it out on my latest building, very old aluminum siding.. I have faith. Will likely have him use straight water and a brush to clean off the minimal dirt. No solvents. They don’t seem to be remotely necessary with this product. The lads did nothing to the other brick buildings in preparation, just painted them. No problems what so ever.
    This Company is very good.

    Environmentally Friendly Paint

I own a specialty painting business in Oregon and have done extensive research on environmentally safe coatings.

Ames manufactures the best coating products I have found for Oregon’s wet weather. The price, durability, and safety of these products are superb.

Paint & Prime 25 year is a truly revolutionary product. In my painting business we get around 20 gallons of paint for every 15 gallons we buy because we are able to add 5 gallons of water and the paint is still thicker than most.

Ames products are full of integrity and I am grateful to use them.

Paint and Prime vastly superior to any other product I have ever used

As a career Marine, I have had to move many times, about every 2-3 years. Each time, I made it a practice to purchase fixer uppers. Upon retirement, I became a general contractor in the construction of residential buildings. Thus, I have a good basis to evaluate the Ames Paint and Prime products.

Last year, I built my retirement home and used the Ames Paint and Prime products exclusively; satin finish on the interior and exterior walls and gloss for the trim. Paint and Prime proved to be vastly superior to any other product I have ever used plus it offered easy water clean up. We saved substantial amounts of money and a lot of time. I never before realized the savings we could get by eliminating the extra primer coat. One coat of Paint and Prime gave excellent coverage. We used two coats only on sheet rock and in areas where we wanted extra durability and maintenance; e.g., kitchen and baths. The paint was easily applied with “spray gun”, roller, and brush.

The finished texture is beautiful, smooth, and easy to maintain. After moving the furniture in, there were scratches and touchups were easy and became invisible. I found that this paint is superior in every way and meets or exceeds the manufaturer/s claims. The customer service was excellent and the staff was always ready to help. We were surprised when neighbors and other visitors came by to tell us how beautiful our paint looks. I intend to use and recommend this product exclusively in the future.

    Gratefully yours,
    Ken Reusser
