Do-It-Yourself in Three Easy Steps:
1. Clean and Prepare the Roof: Read all label instructions before beginning. Always run a test patch first in an inconspicuous area, to ensure that proper adhesion and drying occurs and the product works to your satisfaction. Be sure surfaces are clean and dry before the coating application. Mask all sensitive areas before starting.
2. Seam Tape & Prime the Roof Surface: Prime the surface until it is smooth and sealed. Surfaces with joints, cracks, flashings, vents, parapet wall flashings or where two unlike surfaces come together, require Ames Peel & Stick™ Seam Tape (PS250, PS450, PS650) to provide some additional strength and reinforcement. For standing water situations we recommend priming with Ames’® Super Elasto-Barrier®, dual rubber coating.
3. Pour It Out & Paint It On:
Good: 1-2 coats of Ames® Iron Coat®.
Better: 1 coat of Ames® Super Elasto-Barrier® or Iron Coat® and 2 coats of Iron Coat® or similar Ames® Product.
Best: 2 coat of Ames® Super Elasto-Barrier®; top with 2-3 coats of Ames® Iron Coat® or similar Ames’® product.
Weather & Drying Guidelines:
Best results when applied between 40 to 90 degrees F on warm dry surfaces. Apply when the streets are dry, the sun is in the sky and no inclement weather is forecast. Dries in 1-2 hours, depending on thickness of application and weather; cures in 24 hours. Low temperatures, high humidity and evening and morning dew will require increased drying/curing time.
Standard product coverage on a smooth surface is 100 sq. ft. per gallon per coat. Rough or uneven surfaces may require additional product. More than one coat is recommended. More coats equal longer life.
