Read all label instructions before proceeding. Pressure wash when possible using pure water. Remove all loose paint, tar, dirt, oil, and grease leaving surface clean and completely dry. Be sure surfaces are clean and dry before the coating application. Surface must be in savable condition, with proper drainage. Do not use any soaps, or detergents.
Always run a test patch first in an inconspicuous area to ensure that proper adhesion and drying occurs and the product works to your satisfaction. All major small cracks (1/8” or smaller), joints and seams should be caulked with a non-silicone, paintable caulk or Ames® Blue Max™ trowel-grade coating and filler. Larger cracks (1/8” or larger) may be filled with a sandable filler. Make sure surface is as smooth as possible. For good adhesion Ames® Super Primer® may be used as a base coat for badly deteriorated concrete or wood decks.
Roof Decks: (decks above living areas) After deck preparation you may use Ames® Peel & Stick™ Seam Tape or Contouring Roof Fabric on all surfaces with joints, cracks, flashings or where two unlike surfaces come together. Seam tape is added to provide additional strength and reinforcement. Ames Seam Tape (PS250) 2×50 feet or (PS450) 4×50, or (PS650) 6×50 is ideal for plywood, roof decks and other smooth surfaces.
NOTE: The Peel-And-Stick Seam Tape may show a slight bump and radiate through coating.
Paint brush and 3/8” to 1/2” nap roller with a long handle and paint tray. For Roof Deck application you may need a push broom, Ames® Seam Tape, Ames® Roof Fabric and scissors.
Standard product coverage of Ames® Super Primer™ on a smooth surface is 100 to 200 square feet per gallon per coat.
Standard product coverage of Ames® Super Elasto-Barrier, on a smooth surface is one to two gallons per 100 square feet. More than one coat is recommended. More coats equal longer life.
Safe-T-Deck®, applies at the rate of 1 gallon per 100 square feet. A minimum of two coats is recommended for a durable waterproof surface
Weather & Drying Guidelines:
Ames’ coatings are best applied between 50° to 90°F (10° to 32° C) on warm and dry surfaces. Apply when the streets are dry, the sun is in the sky and no inclement weather is forecast. Starts to dry in about 2-8 hours, depending on thickness of application and weather; if possible, for best results, we recommend a minimum of 24 hours between coats with no rain in the forecast and no freezing temperatures. Low temperatures, high humidity and evening and morning dew will require increased drying/curing time. Do not apply after 3 pm for best drying. The earlier you can put it on, the better. Make sure any morning dew is completely dried off before proceeding.
Clean-up, Storage, and Disposal:
Clean tools and small spills with water. Store unused product in its original container, tightly sealed and protected from freezing. Dispose of this product in accordance with local, state, or federal requirements.
