What is Ames® Safe-T-Deck® Skid Resistant Exterior Deck Coating?

Ames® Safe-T-Deck® is a pure, water based, environmentally friendly, adhesive acrylic latex safety paint that is skid resistant. Ready to use – no mixing required. It preserves and protects by substantially increasing the strength of the surface through adhesion. It also seals out moisture and renews the old surface, while providing an excellent skid-resistant finish that is ideal for pedestrian traffic. Designed for a variety of applications, it is the most cost effective and environmentally conscious way to revitalize deck surfaces. Comes in six different color variations and is tintable.  Ames Safe-T-Deck comes in a granulated non-skid formula perfect for decks and stairs and a smooth formulation that performs like an epoxy to preserve, protect and renew old interior floors.

Instructions & Specifications

Tools:

Paint brush and 3/8” to 1/2” nap roller with a long handle and paint tray.
For Roof Deck application you may need a push broom, Ames® Seam Tape, Ames® Roof Fabric and scissors.

Estimated Coverage:

Apply Ames® Safe-T-Deck® at the rate of 1 gallon per 100 square feet.  A minimum of two coats is recommended for a durable waterproof surface.

Preparation:

Ready to use – no mixing required.  Clean the surface. Remove all loose paint, dirt, oil and grease leaving the surface clean and completely dry.  Always run a test patch first in an inconspicuous area to ensure that proper adhesion and drying occurs and the product works to your satisfaction.  All major cracks, joints and seams should be caulked with a non-silicone, paintable caulk or Ames® Blue Max™ trowel-grade coating and filler.  Larger cracks may be filled with a sandable filler.  Make sure surface is as smooth as possible.  For good adhesion Ames® Super Primer® may be used as a base coat for badly deteriorated concrete or wood decks.

Weather & Drying Guidelines:

Ames® Safe-T-Deck®  is best applied between 50° to 90° F (10° to 32° C) on warm dry surfaces. Apply when the streets are dry, the sun is in the sky and no inclement weather is forecast. Starts to dry in 2-8 hours, minimum of 24 hours between coats if possible for best results, depending on thickness of application and weather; cures in 24 hours. Low temperatures, high humidity and evening and morning dew will require increased drying/curing time.
