AMES'® VAPOR-BARRIER
Do-It-Yourself in Three Easy Steps:

Ames'® industrial-strength coatings are easy to apply for the Do-It-Yourselfer. Most Ames products may be applied by brush, roller, push broom, or sprayer. Depending upon the roughness of the surface, preparation, and the specific application, you may need one or more of the following:

Tools
For preparation work: 4-inch wide paintbrush and utility knife. For Vapor-Barrier application: Paint roller, paint brush or commercial airless sprayer.

COVERAGE
Ames Vapor-Barrier elastomeric paint is nearly three times as thick as most paints and blocks water. One gallon covers approximately 100 sq. ft. per coat.

1 gallon = 100 sq. ft.
5 gallons = 500 sq. ft.
55 gallon drum = 5500 sq. ft.
275 gallon tote = 27500 sq. ft.

Clean up
Clean up tools and small spills with water.

1. SURFACE PREPARATION
Read all label instructions before beginning. Always run a test patch first in an inconspicuous area, to ensure that proper adhesion and drying occurs and the product works to your satisfaction. Careful and complete preparation will ensure the best results and contribute to the life of the coating. The wall surface must be clean, dry, and free of loose material. Loose or peeling paint should be removed with a wire brush and rough wood surfaces sanded. Metal or concrete surfaces may be prepared by using a disc grinder and carborundum disc. Care should be taken so as not to grind though the metal. Do not apply Vapor-Barrier over wet, loose or crumbling concrete. Repair the concrete and allow to cure. Mildew may be removed with a power washer. All major cracks, joints and seams should be caulked with Blue Max trowel-grade liquid rubber. Do not use a silicone caulk. Follow seam taping instructions. Mask all sensitive areas before starting.

2. SEAM TAPE JOINTS AND CRACKS
It is important to seam tape all joints and cracks to avoid future cracking and leaking. Use Ames' Peel & Stick Seam tape (PS250, PS450, PS650) to seam tape flashing to wood; wood to wood; concrete to wood; metal to wood; brick to wood; etc. Apply around flashings, windows and cracks in the walls. Refer to Ames Seam Tape label for application instructions. Do not use fiberglass or asphalt impregnated seam tape.

3. APPLY AMES VAPOR BARRIER
Ames Vapor-Barrier waterproofing paint may be brushed, rolled or sprayed. Apply a minimum of one gallon per 100 square feet per coat. Two coats minimum is best; three to four superior. The application must be applied in a continuous, unbroken seal of a minimum dry thickness of no less than 30 mils (the thickness of a dime) over the entire surface.

GOOD: One to three coats of Ames Vapor-Barrier elastomeric
waterproofing paint.

BETTER: Two coats (2 gallons) of Super Elasto-Barrier per 100 square feet, followed by two coats (2 gallons per 100 square feet ) of Ames Vapor-Barrier.

BEST: 3 coats (1 gallon per 100 square feet per coat) of Super Elasto-Barrier per 100 square feet, followed by two coats (2 gallons per 100 square feet ) of Ames Vapor-Barrier waterproofing paint.
